O'Shun's Orchard · San Diego County, California

The land taught us.
Now we teach others.

O'Shun's Orchard is a native bee habitat education and advisory organization rooted in San Diego County. We work with farms, private properties, cultural institutions, and community organizations to build real understanding of and real habitat for California's native pollinators.

From 80 acres to a mission

O'Shun's Orchard started as a land reclamation project on 80 acres in Ranchita high desert, San Diego County. It grew to 130 acres. Along the way came a deep, firsthand education in how land works, what native plants need, and why the 700+ native bee species of San Diego County matter far more to healthy ecosystems than any managed honeybee hive.

That land experience became the foundation for an education and advisory practice grounded in science, built around community, and led by someone who learned what she knows from the soil up. O'Shun's Orchard is woman-owned, minority-owned, and veteran-owned.

What we do

Our work is education-first: programs, workshops, site visits, and ongoing partnerships that help people become long-term stewards of native habitat. We meet people where they are, whether that's a small farm trying to reduce honeybee hive dependency, a cultural center adding a pollinator garden, or a private property owner who wants to do right by the land.

Workshops & public programs

Hands-on and interpretive education for community groups, schools, farms, and organizations. Covering native bee identification, habitat basics, and plant selection.

Organization partnerships

Ongoing advisory relationships with nonprofits, cultural centers, conservation districts, and public agencies building long-term pollinator programs.

Site visits & habitat advisory

On-the-ground walkthroughs with property owners, farms, and institutions. We assess what's there, what's missing, and how to move toward authentic native habitat.

Green certification support

Education and documentation support for properties pursuing LEED, Bee Better Certified™, and California Green Lodging criteria tied to biodiversity and native habitat.

Our commitment to scientific accuracy

Education reviewed by credentialed scientists

All educational materials, field reports, and public-facing content produced by O'Shun's Orchard are developed in collaboration with credentialed subject matter experts in native bee biology and California ecology. Through publicly available proven research or direct working agreement. We do not publish or teach claims that haven't been confirmed or verified for accuracy by specialists in the field.

Active field work

Our education and advisory work is documented in real time through Field Notes. Follow the science, the challenges, and the progress as it happens.
